Ahhh perfect. I finally found a video of Mark Doty reading his short poem "What is the Grass?" Difficult now, as he has a whole book about Walt Whitman by that name now.

Pessimism, even objective pessimism which the author lacks, never advances humankind

I've always love this poem. Blessed be, Danny. Rise high. Fly onward. "Women are at once the boldest and most unmanageable of revolutionaries." ~ Eamonn de Valera

"Because revolution is more important than machismo......" ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽 You will be missed, Poet. So grateful to have known you. Thank you for always being kind and generous and modeling what creative resistance and liberatory practice truly is. NPS in Austin and the fire the team and all the poets coming from New Mexico brought was sheer perfection. Don't be a stranger.

I’ve loved Langston Hughes’ poetry since 1969 when I accidentally came across an album, “Weary Blues”, among some albums donated to a U.S. Navy where I was stationed. Hughes read his poetry against the backdrop of jazz and blues played by some of the great musicians of the era. Danez Smith’s presentation is poignant and powerful-Perfect. Thank you.

Original Rhyme before external beats. The beat was in the phrasing the words, the artistry of the poet only. And the IDEAS. Mr. Hughes told us that WORKERS of all races should unite to "make American again." We must reinvent the reality.
